Good news! To further strengthen the gastronomy sector, the VAT on food will be reduced from 19% to 7%. The effective date for this change is expected to be January 1st, 2026, provided the draft law is passed this year. In this article, you will learn how to adjust your tax rates in your orderbird POS system:

How to Update Your Tax Rates

There are two options for the adjustment:

Option 1: Adjust the Tax Rates with just one click

To make the tax rate adjustment as easy as possible for you, orderbird offers an uncomplicated solution. For a one-time fee of 99 euros net, orderbird will take care of the adjustment.

Here's how it works: At the start of your first cashier day after the effective date, the POS system compares the food prices for in-house sales (currently 19%) with those for take-away sales (currently 7%). This comparison automatically reduces the higher in-house tax rate to 7%.

As soon as this option is available on MY orderbird you will be informed here.

Automated Change? This is what you need to know!

The automated update only happens after your active consent
For the updated tax rates to also be adopted in your orderbird MINI, restart your MINI once in 2026 and start a new day.

If you use DATEV, please remember to also adjust the stored account numbers for the categories and/or products accordingly. You can find out how to do this here: 4. Store DATEV accounts for categories and products

After the update, check whether all products have been assigned the correct tax rate. orderbird assumes no liability for the correct assignment of the tax rate.

Option 2: Adjust the Tax Rates Individually on Your MINI

As usual, you can update the affected tax rates of the products in your product list individually on your MINI:  How do I update the tax rates for my items?
